Identification of Animals

Identification of Animals
We are currently offering two systems for the identification of your animals. These systems include registration in WinstarPR Animal ID program in order to assist in the retrieval of your pet.

Imagine this: You just came back from a hard day at work and your pet is missing. You look in all areas inside and outside your home, but cannot find them. Then suddenly you see just outside your door the collar they had on with their tag. You worst nightmare has been realized, there is no way to identify them. They're gone. You post signs up everywhere and no one responds. Imagine the pain this would cause your family!

WinstarPR has long been concerned about the number of animals that are lost each year. Statistics demonstrate that around 10 million pets are lost each year throughout the country. Of those, 50 to 75% do not have tags. A huge amount of money is utilized each year to handle these lost animals. In Puerto Rico, there are a limited number of shelters and most of the time they are full of lost pets. Due to this the animal is sacrified fairly quickly, leaving you a short period of time within which to find your pet.

We are currently offering two systems for the identification of your animals. These systems include registration in WinstarPR Animal ID program in order to assist in the retrieval of your pet.

Microchips:
Each microchip is the size of a grain of rice. It is designed for the purpose of storing and transmitting a unique alphanumeric code. This code represents your pet's essential identification. It is a number used by WinstarPR Animal ID program which is linked to your address and telephone number.

It is injected underneath the skin of your pet between the shoulder blades. The process takes only a few seconds and is virtually painless and requires no special treatment or anesthetic. It has no batteries or internal energy source so it will last the life of your pet.

In the event of the loss of your pet, a shelter or veterinary office with a scanner can read the microchip. They can then call us and check with the WinstarPR Animal ID program to determine if the pet is registered with us. We will then supply the information and your pet can be returned to you.

The cost for the microchip and registration in our program is $30.00.

Tattoos:
Microchipping is safe, effective, durable and dependable, but it can't absolutely guarantee that a lost pet will be found. The best way is to use more than one form of identification. The tattooing system utilized by WinstarPR is the Hauptner Dog Tattoo equipment from Germany. This is the finest tattoo equipment in the world. You can utilize up to seven (7) letters, numbers or combination, depending on your needs. Certain associations and Dog Sport organizations require a specific order and reasoning for each character used. Just tell us what you want to use, and it can be done.

The ideal age for tattoos is up to 4 months, but it can be done at a later age. It is usually placed in the inner aspect of the right ear. The younger the dog, the easier and less painful it is.

The cost for a tattoo is $10.00. Registration in the WinstarPR Animal ID program is an additional $10.00.

In a perfect world, leashes, fences and doors would be enough to sep your pet safe at home. In the real world, accidents happen, and your pet depends on you to protect them against the things that could go wrong. Take a step towards ensuring that your pet will be with you in the future. Microchip and/or tattoo them today!
